ABOUT ME

My artwork is an ode to how everything in nature and this world is connected and dependent on one another and how there is still so much to this world we don't know. I like to use the figure of a mandala for a lot of my work, the word "Mandala" in Sanskrit translates to "circle or center." The mandala is also a symbol of the universe, and It can also represent one's search for completeness and self-unity. This is appropriate for my process as I make art as a way to practice self-care and self-exploration and to take care of my mind and my center.

During the pandemic, I started to walk along the beach during the day to get some air and exercise and I started collecting shells and things I found. I had this idea when I was walking to take the shells and bits from the ocean and create some sort of circle piece. I felt as if the world was upside down and my beach walks were some of the only grounding moments I had during lockdown. As I was working out the idea I realized it was a way for me to organize the chaos. Organizing chaos has been a common thread that has stuck with me because it is how I feel calm.

When I look at my work, it makes me feel peaceful. It represents life, the idea that things will always be chaotic and uneasy and we have to take the beautiful moments, make positive patterns, and remember that there are more beautiful moments to come. In addition to being an artist, I am also a board-certified art therapist and mental health counselor. I feel exploring personal symbols and themes is a great way to gain insight into yourself and make meaningful and transformative art.
